Today it was off to Seaton in Devon to meet the lovely Beverley, a victim of an Acid attack some years ago. The makeup was to be natural but polished for her interview feature, photographed by Retts Wood for Psychologies magazine. Good reports came back from the photographer and magazine, and Beverly loved her makeup. Really looking forward to seeing the interview soon!
Well Summer is certainly here, and the weather has been stunning for the majority of the weddings and shoots I've had the pleasure of working on of late! Lets hope it stays this way for a good while yet.
Actor head-shots, fashion editorials / catalogues, promotional campaigns, tv / film / music videos... Men are often required to wear makeup of varying levels, it's not jut women who sit in my chair! The model for this "Rugged vs Groomed - Which do you prefer?" feature not only had to put up with me disguising imperfections with foundation, concealer and contouring his face with varying shadows, he also had to shave his much loved stubble off halfway through! Thanks to Photographer Rickie Staple who got the shots needed in no time, and Alan the model for being a very good sport :)

This very chilly afternoon was spent on the North coast at Trevone Bay with photographer Rickie Staple and model Steph Kilby. After a minor technical glitch due to sand, and in spite of the freezing waters, Steph managed to brave dipping herself in for long enough to get the shots. And great shots they are too :)

I will shortly be collaborating with an innovative skin care company, allowing me to introduce into my kit an entirely Paraben-free skin care and makeup range, in addition to my current, ever-increasing kit! The range features 0% Parabens, 0% Phenoxyethanol, 0% Sodium Laureth Sulfate, 0% Phthalates, 0% Mineral Oils and 0% Artificial Colourings. The way skin care should be! had the pleasure of being asked to showcase my work at Trereife Wedding Fair and do the fashion show makeup for Anna D'Souza, a bespoke wedding dress designer. The event was hosted by Alison, Liz and Keoth from Trereife House, and was in association with WED magazine.

If you're looking for a spectacular wedding fair to go to this Spring, why not come along to the fantastic wedding show being held in the stunning grounds of Trereife House in Newlyn, Penzance on Sunday February 7th!

Today it was off to the Carnmarth hotel to do Sarah's makeup for her birthday. She had the whole hotel booked up with family and friends who had all made it and were ready to celebrate her 30th in spite of the now settling snow!
Sarah told me she didn't wear a lot of makeup normally, so wanted something that would allow her to still feel like herself but which also fitted in with the gorgeous black and gold dress she had bought to wow her guests.
I advised her on a few colours which would work well, and then went on to use the combination of dusky pink and gilded bronze on the eyes. I applied a pore minimzing and mattifying base, followed by a lightweight super flexible foundation so as not to make her feel heavily made up. After a dusting of translucent powder, I applied a warm coral pink to her cheekbones and a lighter baby pink on the cheek itself. Her eyebrows needed lengthening slightly to give a balanced finish to the rest of the look, and I kept the lips as close a colour to her natural lip colour as possible.
The end result was a very fresh-faced, youthfull look which she loved :)

I couldn't help but laugh...
I arrived at The Manor House in West Pentire, Newquay to meet the lovely bride-to-be Claire and her mother for their trial. The wedding was to be 3 days later at The Headland hotel. Claire the bride was quite open to my suggestions for her wedding day look, but knew she wanted something very natural and elegant. So we went with radiant skin, softly blended smokey eyeliner with a sweeping flick and a rosey pout.
Mid-way through, a whole host of mini calamaties started unfolding, very comically, in the background... (think a scene out of 'Airplane')...and it's always when you know you shouldn't laugh that you can't help but do just that! As much as we tried none of us could control the giggles, but after a few deep breaths we carried on with the makeup and the look was finished with the bride very happy indeed.
A lovely family to work for and a few pics will follow shortly :)
Happy New Year!
It’s already looking like 2010 is going to surpass last year on the busy and exciting front… and last year was in itself very busy and very exciting!
As well as being fully booked with weddings, I had the pleasure of working with lots of great people and gained some new commercial clients to top it off.
Most recently I was approached to do makeup for ‘The Wrigley Corporation’, (…yep, as in chewing gum!), which was a very interesting job to do. Then there were the makeovers for magazines such as ‘REAL People’, fashion shows and shoots, hair salon promos, model portfolios in an array of weird and wonderful places…. (Stately homes, swimming pools and derelict barns to name a few…!) And last but not least, jewellery and clothing ranges as well!
So what's in store for this year? Well, to start with I'm off to New York for a bit of PR with photographer Lee Searle (www.leesearle.com) and I'm already booking up fast with Weddings and shoots. So I should have lots of interesting posts to come.
Thanks for reading the first one of 2010, and if you’d like to keep up to date with all the latest news you can either check back here or join my Facebook fan page by clicking the link below.
Best wishes,
